Minecraft in the Classroom?

When thinking of video games the word “classroom” often does not pop into one’s head. In this article it shows how minecraft teaches many skills that are taught in the classroom. They get to create their own world, nothing can happen unless they decide it can. It is a great game for the students to express their thoughts and imagination. You can have the students write a story about the world they are creating or have them write about the characters explaining what they like and what they do. You can teach the reading comprehension skills or about setting and sequence of events. This game can teach the students many skills that you would never think can. In the article it states a common core standard and then explains how the game associates with the standard. I think this is a cool new way for the students to enjoy learning. Half the time I feel the students will not even realize it!
