Television in the Classroom

This PDF describes how videos can impact students and their learning. One part of the PDF had a detailed account of how videos and television can promote student achievement. When watching TV it grasps your attention in many ways … because of the many ways the information is given. It is shown that kids remember twice as much when they see AND hear something versus when they see OR hear something. Something that I hear a lot today is the idea that teachers must keep in mind that students come into school at all different levels .. with different background knowledge. Videos and television can allow students to have a ‘common base of knowledge’ in that subject area or for that concept. There is also a great emphasis on meeting the diverse needs of each student. Television easily ‘provides greater accommodation for of diverse learning styles.’ Television and videos in the classroom seem to have a more positive impact than one may actually believe.
